Konnie Fries
Ataraxis Equines

Growing up in NY, Konnie spent some of her childhood as a hunter/jumper. Enamored with the way horses made her feel, she was devastated when her family faced some major challenges and had to give up horses in early adolescence. At the young age of 13, Konnie found herself in the grips of addiction to numb trauma and seek comfort. Through numerous traumatic events, teenaged pregnancy, addiction, relapse, and juvenile delinquency Konnie persevered and found the will to live and love herself with the help horses. Not knowing her purpose in the horse world, she walked into a show barn just to muck in exchange for the opportunity to learn in her mid 20’s. For several years she worked in show barns in NY, PA, and FL where many horses taught her, and helped her discover things she had never known about herself; such as strength, patience, and perseverance. Not everything discovered was favorable. It wasn’t until she moved to CO and met a mustang that she truly knew why she was called to horses and why they were such a moving, inseparable force in her life. She spent several years learning Natural Horsemanship and exploring deeper connections through mindfulness, as well as various methods of humane training. She discovered it all came down to energy, and that methods were secondary in the learning process. This is when she started to feel the transformation within , and ultimately started seeing the transformation in the horses she worked with. She feels fortunate to have received guidance from some wonderful mentors, and most importantly, the mustangs. Now 37, Konnie’s mission is to connect, educate, and transform the lives of mustangs and their adopters. It is her hope to share her experience in order to help horses and humans find their happy place, just as she did. Horses can help transform us, just as much as we can help transform them. Konnie’s story is one of inspiration and hope. Her mission is to reach others who struggle and help them embrace their shadows.
